A 1500 W portable heater is needed to replace the heat lost through a circular window (radius 25 cm) in the wall of a home that

is made of a single pane of glass 0.30 cm thick. Thermal conductivity for the glass is 0.63 W/mK. The temperature inside the house is 20°C and outside is -12°C. What is the thickness of the window?

Answer:

The thickness of the window pane is 2.94 mm

Solution:

As per the question:

Power of the heater, P = 1500 W

Thickness of the glass pane, t = 0.30 cm = 3\times 10^{- 4}\ m

Radius, R = 25 cm = 0.25 m

Thermal Conductivity of glass, K = 0.63 W/ mK

Inside Temperature, T_{in} = 20^{\circ}

Outside Temperature, T_{o} = - 12^{\circ}

Now,

Power of the heater = Heat Loss, Q

Thus

Q = 1500 W

We know that:

Q = KA\frac{dT}{dt}

Q = K\times \pi R^{2}\frac{(T_{o} - T_{i})}{t' - t}

1500 = 0.63\times \pi \times (0.25)^{2}\frac{(20 - (- 12))}{t' - (3\times 10^{- 4})}

t' - (3\times 10^{- 4}) = 0.63\times \pi \times (0.25)^{2}\frac{32}{1500}

t' = 2.94 mm

100 g of liquid nitrogen at its boiling point of 77 K is stirred into a beaker containing 500 g of 15°C water.
igomit [66]

Answer:

Option A: none

Explanation:

Specific heat capacity is the amount of heat energy required to raise the temperature of a substance per unit of mass.

From the question, the parameters given are; The heat of vaporization of nitrogen= 48 cal/g and that of water is 80 cal/g.

Using the formulae; Specific heat capacity,c= Q/ m× ∆T,----------–-----------------------------------------------------

STEP ONE: We will have to calculate all the energy numbers; 77k is approximately the boiling point of Nitrogen.

Energy required to decrease water from 15°C to 0°C = E(1).

0.1×10^3 g× 48 cal/gram..

= 4800 cal

Energy require to vaporize Nitrogen=E(2).

= 80 cal per gram×0.15(15-0)

= 180 cal

Energy required to decrease water from 15°C to 0°C is higher than that of the energy to vaporize Nitrogen, N2.

STEP 2: 180/4800× 15 = 0.5625

Therefore; 15-0.5625 =14.43

Answer= 14.43gC

Angular momentum is conserved in the above examples such as the ice skater, the torque or the rotating effect of the force is almost equal to zero because there is negligible friction between the skates and the ice.

<h3>What is principle of conservation of angular momentum?</h3>

The principle of conservation of angular momentum states that the total angular momentum acting on an object is constant, provided there is no  external torque acting on the object.

Angular momentum of a system is conserved as long as there is no net external torque acting on the system.

<h3>Examples of conservation of angular momentum</h3>
  • the spinning ice skater
  • someone spinning in an office chair
  • a child spinning on roller coaster

Thus, angular momentum is conserved in the above examples such as the ice skater, the torque or the rotating effect of the force is almost equal to zero because there is negligible friction between the skates and the ice.

No need for rearranging because it is already set up for Vf (final velocity)

0 + -9.8(2.7) = vf

vf = -26.5 (-26.46)

gayaneshka [121]
Even though all materials are at the same temperature when they come out of the dryer, some like the zipper are far better conductors of heat and can burn you. Cloth is not a good conductor of heat.
