A 1500 W portable heater is needed to replace the heat lost through a circular window (radius 25 cm) in the wall of a home that

is made of a single pane of glass 0.30 cm thick. Thermal conductivity for the glass is 0.63 W/mK. The temperature inside the house is 20°C and outside is -12°C. What is the thickness of the window?

Answer:

The thickness of the window pane is 2.94 mm

Solution:

As per the question:

Power of the heater, P = 1500 W

Thickness of the glass pane, t = 0.30 cm = 3\times 10^{- 4}\ m

Radius, R = 25 cm = 0.25 m

Thermal Conductivity of glass, K = 0.63 W/ mK

Inside Temperature, T_{in} = 20^{\circ}

Outside Temperature, T_{o} = - 12^{\circ}

Now,

Power of the heater = Heat Loss, Q

Thus

Q = 1500 W

We know that:

Q = KA\frac{dT}{dt}

Q = K\times \pi R^{2}\frac{(T_{o} - T_{i})}{t' - t}

1500 = 0.63\times \pi \times (0.25)^{2}\frac{(20 - (- 12))}{t' - (3\times 10^{- 4})}

t' - (3\times 10^{- 4}) = 0.63\times \pi \times (0.25)^{2}\frac{32}{1500}

t' = 2.94 mm

An elevator held by a single cable is ascending but slowing down. Is the work done by tension positive, negative, or zero? What
inessss [21]

Explanation:

1.) Work = Force*Distance

2.) The direction of motion lies in the same direction as the tension in the cable. So the work done by tension would be positive.

3.) The direction of the weight (due to gravity) would act opposite to the direction of motion of the elevator, so work done by gravity becomes negative.

As the object in the picture moves from point A to point D across the surface, the sum of the gravitational and kinetic energies
Afina-wow [57]
Answer:
d. remains the same
Explanation:
We know that if there is no external resistive force then the total energy of the system remains constant.
The total energy is the summation of kinetic and potential energy.
When an object moves from point A to another point D then the total energy, potential gravitational and kinetic energy will remain same.

A particular spectral line from an observed object is measured to be at a wavelength of 400 nm. that same spectral line is found
Butoxors [25]
To find the radial velocity of the object we are going to apply the regular Doppler formula:
 [measured wavelenght - rest wavelenght/ rest wavelenght] = V/C, where V is the radial velocity and C is the speed of light which is equal to 300,000km/sec.
[400 - 800/800] = V/300,000 = - 150,000.
This means that the object is moving at a velocity of 150,000km/sec toward the observer.
The minus sign infront of the answer indicates that the object is moving towards the observer while a positive value will indicate that the object is moving away from the observer.

A string is being driven by a motor with a frequency of 10 Hz. If the speed of the waves travelling down the string is equal to
garri49 [273]

Answer:

λ = 2.4 m

Explanation:

The speed of a wave is defined as the product of the frequency and the wavelength of that wave:

v = f\lambda

where,

v = speed of wave = 24 m/s

f = frequency of wave = 10 Hz

λ = wavelength of the wave = ?

Therefore,

24\ m/s = (10\ Hz)\lambda\\\\\lambda = \frac{24\ m/s}{10\ Hz}

<u>λ = 2.4 m</u>
