Nonviolence was used constantly throughout the Civil Rights movement. Martin Luther King Jr. and organizations like the NAACP would organize peaceful protests like sit-ins, boycotts, and marches. Even though some of these methods were met with violence from white citizens, members of the nonviolent movement refused to fight back. This turned the American public in favor of the Civil Rights movement, as they saw that it was not the protestors who were causing the problem.
