Chromatin refers to the complex of proteins and DNA, which develops chromosomes inside the nucleus of eukaryotic cells. DNA is not visible in the free linear strand; it is enveloped around the nuclear proteins and is highly condensed so that to get fit within the nucleus.
The basic structural unit of chromatin is nucleosome. Due to its composition, it describes the genetic information before the start of mitosis.
