'My Introduction to Gothic Literature' is an explanatory essay which provide details of how the author came into contact with the Gothic literature. The essay narrates how the author was introduced to the genre of Gothic Literature and how she fell in love with Gothic literature genre and especially with Edgar Allan Poe. The author was introduced to the Gothic Literature by her Grandmother when the author was fourteen years old and staying at her grandmother's home. The author, before she was introduced with Gothic literature, was intrigued with the elements of Gothics. The author was enjoying the wet night which grew darker while sitting at a window and was mesmerized by the lightning and thunder. Dark, rainy night, thunder, storms, strong winds, etc are some of the elements that are found in a Gothic literature and thhe author loved this.

The author's grandmother handed her over a book to read during the power cut to kill the time. And the first story that she read from the book was 'The Cask of Amontillado.' The story glued her to read the whole book and she spent the stromy night in darkness both real and imaginary.
