these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound’s the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I— I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. One of the main differences between these two poems is that in "Stopping by Woods", the narrator knows exactly where he is going. He is taking a break but knows that he has many miles to go before he can rest. In "The Road Not Taken", the narrator is faced with a choice, and the poem is about the choice he made, there is much less certainty about his destination.
