A doorway is 8 feet high and 4 feet wide. A square piece of plywood needs to be moved through the doorway. The plywood is 10 fee

t long and 10 feet wide. The door is a rectangle with a height of 8 feet, and a width of 4 feet. A dotted line shows the diagonal.
Will the piece of plywood fit through the door if it is tilted diagonally?

A. No, because the length of the diagonal is close to 9 feet.
B. No, because the height of the door is less than 10 feet.
C. Yes, because the length of the diagonal is close to 11 feet.
D. Yes, because the sum of the height and width of the door is greater than 10 feet.

By the Pythagorean Theorem:

d^2=x^2+y^2

d^2=8^2+4^2

d^2=64+16

d^2=80

d=√80

d=4√5 ft

d≈8.944

So

A. No because the diagonal is close to 9 feet.

Which expression is equivalent to 2x^2+2x-4/2x^2-4x+2
lord [1]
You need to factor the numerator and denominator...

(2x^2+4x-2x-4)/(2x^2-2x-2x+2)

(2x(x+2)-2(x+2))/(2x(x-1)-2(x-1))

((2x-2)(x+2))/((2x-2)(x-1))  so the (2x-2)s cancel out leaving

(x+2)/(x-1)

Write the standard equation of the ellipse with center at the origin, and vertices at (-4,0), (4,0), (0, -3), and (0,3).

Answer:

  (a)  x^2/16 +y^2/9 = 1

Step-by-step explanation:

The form for the equation of an ellipse centered at the origin is ...

  (x/(semi-x-axis))^2 +(y/(semi-y-axis))^2 = 1

The vertex values tell you the semi-x-axis is 4 units, and the semi-y-axis is 3 units. Then you have ...

  (x/4)^2 +(y/3)^2 = 1

  x^2/16 +y^2/9 = 1

__

In case you don't remember that form, you can try any of the points in the equations. The equation that works will quickly become apparent.

Need help with this logarithm question
alex41 [277]

Answer:

First one - the root is in the bottom of the fraction (just like it is with trees) and she wrote it backwards. 2 to the four over three is the third root of two the power of four and not the other way around. Just change that and it's good.

Second one - he said that ln(2) = 2 and that's just not true. No way of fixing that one, he shouldn't get high as often as he does I guess.
