John Locke has a theory of war in which he describes war as being a state of destruction which happens because someone pre-meditated taking another person's life. In his theory, he states that a person may kill another if his life is threatened, in self-defense.

He further argues that war is just and fair because it is a response to aggression and that the aggressor loses his or her rights when he puts people in a state of war and any means can be employed to defeat the enemy because war has no rules.
