One detail in support of the argument against requiring community service is that it's time consuming. High schoolers are busy enough with their homework, studies and social life, let alone worry about doing community service in order to graduate.

A reason why you might argue that community service in high school is not a good idea is the fact that it might damage the grades of students. Most people would agree that the most important thing that high school students should focus on is their grades. However, if students are busy with other activities, such as community service and volunteering, they would have less time to study, revise their notes, and prepare for exams. Therefore, it is possible that their grades would suffer because of this.
