The correct options, in my opinion, are: interludes and lighten. Interludes actually came out of morality plays. They were usually performed either at banquets and other aristocratic gatherings or between the acts of serious plays, as a way to break the serious atmosphere and entertain the audience for a while. They had simple plots and one-dimensional characters. At first, they used allegoric but easily recognisable characters (as their inheritance from morality plays), but later they got comical topics and tone, devoid of didactical purposes.
