The Yanomamo community is characterized by being a violent tribe. Even if there are no physical altercations, there will be verbal conflicts.

Explanation:

  • According to statistics, approximately 40% of adult men are involved in the murder of another man. Most of them (60%) kill only one person. One in four men (25%) lose their lives in a fight, while two-thirds of the Yanomamo community members have lost a close family member to various forms of violence.
  • Members of this tribe consider themselves "angry people." They teach children to be aggressive. In them, self-defense is a moral duty.
  • There are several types of clearing-ups at the Yanomamo community. In the most aggressive form, pairs of participants alternately punch one long fist into the chest until one competitor spits blood. There are also more bloodthirsty duels, in which the clashes hit each other on the head with a beating.
  • Inter-rural wars are, however, the most drastic form of violence among the Yanomamo community. As a consequence of the war, migration between villages is implied, and so often two villages are merged into one, or, in other words, one village is split into two.
