The author confirms that, but it isn't the focal point, as we can see from the last 3 sentences. Those chores resulted with girls needing more time to arrive at school, and the bicycles solved this problem, making their lives easier.

3. The sentence that should be removed is </span><span>5 There are always jealous people who selfishly do not like to see others succeed, and bicycle racing was no different.
