Read this excerpt from "A Modest Proposal" by Jonathan Swift: Infant's flesh will be in season throughout the year, but more ple

ntiful in March, and a little before and after; for we are told by a grave author, an eminent French physician, that fish being a prolifick dyet, there are more children born in Roman Catholick countries about nine months after Lent, the markets will be more glutted than usual, because the number of Popish infants, is at least three to one in this kingdom, and therefore it will have one other collateral advantage, by lessening the number of Papists among us. I have already computed the charge of nursing a beggar's child (in which list I reckon all cottagers, labourers, and four-fifths of the farmers) to be about two shillings per annum, rags included; and I believe no gentleman would repine to give ten shillings for the carcass of a good fat child, which, as I have said, will make four dishes of excellent nutritive meat, when he hath only some particular friend, or his own family to dine with him. Thus the squire will learn to be a good landlord, and grow popular among his tenants, the mother will have eight shillings neat profit, and be fit for work till she produces another child. Those who are more thrifty (as I must confess the times require) may flea the carcass; the skin of which, artificially dressed, will make admirable gloves for ladies, and summer boots for fine gentlemen. In which point of view is this excerpt written?
A.
first person
B.
second person

Answer: This excerpt has been written in A. first person point of view.

Explanation: In "A Modest Proposal", a satiric essay written by Jonathan Swift, the anonymous narrator, which is known as The Proposer, presents his own ideas, judgements and ironic suggestions about how to solve the problem of famine in Ireland. Moreover, as he narrates from a first person point of view, he makes use of the first person pronoun ("I"), such as in "I must confess the times require" and "I believe no gentleman would repine to give ten shillings for the carcass of a good fat child".

"By lessening the number of Papists among us," is the sentence which is directed against a particular social class in Ireland. Papists are known to be a sectarian term for the Roman Catholic Church's teaching, practices, and adherents. It is a actually a derogatory term used back then

How are we able to analyze symbols, as symbols? in other words, how does deconstruction work at a basic level.
blondinia [14]
Deconstruction is one (controversial) literary theory amongst many: Russian Formalism, Structuralism, Marxism, Feminism, Jungian, Freudian, Reception Theory, ... . Actually, Deconstruction is more a way of reading than a theory of literature, and it aims to show how texts deconstruct or contradict themselves. Instead of showing how everything fits together in a hierarchical structure, as other approaches tend to do, deconstruction tries to show how texts unravel themselves, particularly showing how the privileged item in a binary pair can be reversed and subverted. Marxists and Feminists may argue that Deconstruction lacks serious political commitment
