You have been called to a park where a local church is holding a potluck dinner. As you exit your ambulance, a woman approaches

you holding her 7-year-old son who is wheezing and having difficulty breathing. She informs you that he inadvertently ate a brownie with nuts, and he is allergic to nuts. The child's mother has an EpiPen that contains the appropriate dose of epinephrine for a child. What dose would that be?

Answer:

0.15mg

Explanation:

Epinephrine can also be referred to as Adrenaline. It is an hormone(chemical).

Epinephrine as a drug is used to treat a person exhibiting or showing allergic reactions due :

a. Consumption of foods they are allergic to. For example peanuts.

b. The person been bitten or stung by bees or other poisonous insects

c. Injestion of drugs that the person reacts or is allergic to.

Epinephrine when used as a drug is very fast in action because it helps to improve the person breathing, increase the heart rate, reduce wheezing, raise the low blood pressure of a person, clear off skin itching or hives and reduce any form of swelling that can be found on the person's face, arms or lips.

The dosage of Epinephrine for Adults is 0.3mg and for Children weighing below is 0.15mg.

Epinephrine due to an advancement in technology now comes in a form of an intramuscular injector know as an Epipen. Epipen is easy to carry and it comes with already measured and appropriate dosage of Epinephrine. It is easy and ready to use in case of an emergency.

Which source should you NOT consult to validate an advertisement's claim?
Studentka2010 [4]
The product manufacturer will be biased. Of course they will support the claim, because they make money if you believe the claim and buy their product.
It's better to consult the other sources, assuming of course that they are unbiased and do not have any conflicts of interest.
