First distribute -6 to 3b and -1.

-6(3b - 1) = -18b+6

So now you have 55 -18b + 6 = -11. Now you want to start isolating to solve for b. Subtract 6 from both sides.

55 -18b + 6 = -11
               -6     -6

Now you have 55 -18b = -17. Then subtract 55 from both sides.

 55-18b = -17
-55            -55

That leaves you with -18b = -72. Now divide both sides by -18 to solve for b. Remember that a negative divided by a negative gives you a positive.

-18b ÷-18 = -72 ÷ -18

Leaves you with b = 4. Now plug 4 back into the equation for b to see if it's true. 55 - 6(3(4)-1) = -11. It works, so it's true.

If you had to put up a fence around a circular baseball field, you would need to know the _________?
laila [671]
You would need to know the diameter of the field, and from that, you need to get the circumference of the field by using the formula C = πd.

By getting the circumference, you can therefore determine the perimeter/length of the fence you will need to enclose it.

A 100-point test contains a total of 20 questions. The multiple choice questions are worth 3 points each and the short response
Alex17521 [72]

Answer: 3x+8y=100

x+y=20

x=12

y=8

Step-by-step explanation: x would represent the number of multiple choice questions and y would represent the number of short response questions. the multiple choice questions were 3 points meaning that you need to find x. the short answer response questions were 8 points meaning you need to find y. altogether you need to get 100 points. for the second equation you have 20 questions that need to be both multiple choice and short response. therefore the second equation would be x+y=20. if you solved this, the answer would be that x equals 12 and y equals 8. hope this helped! :))
