Francisco Franco was a military dictator that ruled over Spain from 1936 until his death in 1975. He was able to maintain this position thanks to his ability to align himself with powerful groups from Spain and from different countries. An example of this situation is the fact that his friendly relationship with the Nazi German government, and his fascist policies meant Spain was not invaded by Germany like France was.
