Ancient Rome was considered a Republic. This form of government involved citizen input. Citizens were able to elect the officials who would represent them in government. This is an idea that is still used in the United States today, as we vote for officials at the local, state, and national level.

Along with this, Ancient Rome had a Senate which was responsible for developing laws for Roman society. In our society, we have a Senate as well as a House of Representatives who are repsonsible for developing and passing federal laws.
