Answer:

Instructions are below.

Explanation:

Giving the following information:

Handy Home sells windows and doors in the ratio of 7:3 (windows:doors).

Window:

Selling price= $111

Unitary variable cost= $68

Door:

Selling price= $261

Unitary variable cost= $180.5

Fixed costs are $515,375.

1) Selling price per composite unit:

Selling price= 0.7*111 + 0.3*261= $156

2) Composite variable cost:

Variable cost per unit= 0.7*68 + 0.3*180.5= 101.75

3) To calculate the break-even point in units, we need to use the following formula:

Break-even point in units= fixed costs/ contribution margin per unit

Break-even point in units= 515,375/ ( 156 - 101.75)

Break-even point in units= 9,500 units

4) Units for each product:

Windows= 0.7*9,500= 6,650

Door= 0.3*9,500= 2,850

A manager of a perfectly competitive firm observes that the marginal product of labor is 5 units per hour, the marginal product
oksian1 [2.3K]

Answer:

The manager should hire <u>more labor</u> and <u>rent less capital</u>.

Explanation:

Given:

MPL = Marginal product of labor units per hour = 5

MPC = marginal product of capital units per machine = 40

PL = Wage per hour = $20, or 20

PC = Rental price of capital per machine = $120, or120

Po = Price of output per unit = $5

The condition for the profit maximization for a firm is as follows:

MPL / PL = MPC / PC ……………………………. (1)

From equation (1), we have:

MPL / PL = 5 / 20 = 0.25

MPC / PC = 40 / 120 = 0.33

Since 0.25 = MPL / PL < MPC / PC = 0.33, it implies that these conditions are NOT consistent with equation (1).

In order to maximize profit, more labor should be hired while less capital should be rented until these conditions are consistent with equation (1).

Therefore, we have:

To maximize profit, the manager should hire <u>more labor</u> and <u>rent less capital</u>.

When this happens, government get the money to finance the deficit in the budget from the central bank or ask the central bank to print more currency or get aid and grant from foreign aid donors to finance the deficit.

Loan fund to the banking system: This is a function of central bank when they act as lenders of last resort to the commercial bank. If people begins to withdraw their money from commercial banks, the banks may be placed in such a position that they will not have enough cash to pay their customers. They will run to the central bank to borrow money or to rediscount bills and the central bank must not refuse to come to the aid of commercial banks in order to prevent banking crisis which may shake a country's economy.

Sells newly issued government bond : This is when central bank wants to reduce the volume of money in circulation, the central bank sells bond or securities in the open market .people buy with cheque drawn on their deposits in the commercial banks. The central bank then presents the cheque to the commercial bank and draw on their cash reserves by this the cash reserve of commercial banks is reduced and reduce the supply of money in the economy.

Control the money supply : This is the function of central bank to regulate the volume of money in circulation or to mop up excess liquidity in the economy by selling treasury bill through the open market to the members of the public .It collect money from the commercial banks this will reduce the cash reserves of commercial banks and reduce their loan given capacity.

Government bonds, the money supply : The central bank is the legal authority to sell government bonds in order to mop up the excess liquidity in the economy. When their is too much money in circulation, the central bank make use of monetary policy instruments such as the open market operation to reduce the supply of money in circulation.
