Granulosa cell tumors originate from the granulosa cells. Even though, granulosa cells are naturally present only in the ovary, the granulosa cell tumors can occur in both the ovaries and the testicles.

The Granulosa cell tumor releases the hormone estrogen which leads to increased estrogen levels.

The tumor can cause heavy or abnormal vaginal bleeding, abdominal discomfort and increase the risk of endometrial cancer.

Juvenile granulosa cell tumor is similar to granulosa cell tumor but a very rare tumor, usually seen in children.
