The Concordat of Worms was a compromise that took place in 1122 between the Pope Calixtus II and the Roman Emperor Henry V. It was important because it settled a problem between the Empire and the Church over control of the church’s offices.

The Concordat ended the conflict and settled that Bishops and abbots were chosen by the clergy but the Emperor was allowed to decide contested elections.
