Fungi are, in fact, more closely related to animals than plants. They are heterotrophs and do not carry out the process of photosynthesis because they do not contain the green pigment chlorophyll. Unlike animals, fungi do not ingest their food. Fungi release digestive enzymes into their food and digest it externally.
