Commodore Matthew C. Perry was an admiral in the United States Navy from 1809-1858. He served in the War of 1812 and the Mexican-American War. He established the curriculum for the United States Naval Academy and supported modernizing of the U.S. Navy. As a result, he became known as <em>the Father of the Steam Navy </em>in the U.S..
The Germanic tribes were much more culturally set back than the romans in things like buildings, writing, and art. The Germanic tribes were mainly nomadic so they never settled down to build magnificent buildings such as the Colosseum. The Romans at one point switched over to christian religion and the Germanic tribes were pagan, so after the Roman Empire collapsed, Christianity almost died out in most of Europe.
Under the Articles of Confederation, the government was a unicameral (one house) legislature. Delegates to Congress were appointed by the state legislatures, and each state had one vote.
