The answer is 3/8. You have to change 3/4 to 6/8 and divide it by 2. 6÷2=3 so the answer is 3/8

An easier way would just be to set it up in an expression. She used 1/2 of 3/4 lb. When you see "of", replace it with (×).

1/2 of 3/4 =
1/2 × 3/4 =
3/8

A car valued at $20,000 depreciates at a rate of 2%during the first 5 years, then at a rate of 2.5% every year after that. What
Alika [10]
Sure, let me help you on this one!

We are starting with a value of $20,000.

We will experience a 10% price drop in the first five years (2*5)

20,000 times 0.90 equals to 18,000

$18,000 dollars after five years.

We will also experience a 12.5% the following five years.

18,000 times 0.875 equals to 15,750.

The answer to this question is $15,750.

Suppose we want to choose 4 colors, without replacement, from 18 distinct colors.
amm1812

Answers:

  • (a) 73440
  • (b)  3060

=====================================================

Explanation for part (a)

Consider four slots labeled A,B,C,D.

We have

  • 18 choices for slot A
  • 17 choices for slot B
  • 16 choices for slot C
  • 15 choices for slot D

We started at 18 and counted down until we filled the four slots. The countdown is because we cannot repeat a color. Multiply out those values to get the answer: 18*17*16*15 = 73440

You can use the nPr permutation formula as an alternative method

_nP_r = \frac{n!}{(n-r)!}

in this case n = 18 and r = 4. The exclamation marks indicate factorial.

-----------------------------------

Explanation for part (b)

Let's say we had color labels A,B,C,... all the way up to R which is the 18th letter in the English alphabet. From those 18 letters, we can only pick four. Let's say we pick D,E,F,G.

Focusing solely on the set {D,E,F,G}, we only have one set and the order doesn't matter. So {D,E,F,G} is the same as {D,E,G,F}.

There are 4*3*2*1 = 24 ways to arrange those four items meaning that we'll need to divide the result of part (a) by 24 to get the result of part (b)

73440/24 = 3060

You could use the nCr combination formula to get the same result

_nC_r = \frac{n!}{r!(n-r)!}

where n = 18 and r = 4 are the same from last time.

The connection between nPr and nCr is this

_nC_r = \frac{_nP_r}{r!}

which can be rearranged into

_nP_r = r!*\left( _nC_r \right)

these formulas are handy to help us go back and forth between nCr or nPr.

Please help me I'm stumped on this
Sladkaya [172]

Answer: 1300 cm^3, 850 cm^2

Step-by-step explanation:

With a triangular prism, you need to calculate the surface area of the triangle first and then the length. Here's how to solve for the volume (A):

Triangles is b*h/2, plug in the equation

10*13/2

130/2

65

Now use the length of the rest of the shape, which is 20 cm.

65*20=1300

the volume is 1300 cm^3.

for B, finding the surface area requires you to analyze each individual part of the shape.

Each part colored in represents a different shape:

Red:

10*20=200

Blue:

13*10/2=65

65*2=130 (Two triangles)

Green:

13*20=260

260*2=520 (Two rectangles)

Add them all up together.

200+130+520= 850 cm^2
