More than 200 years ago, in the eighteenth century, in Europe, began what is called the Industrial Revolution, from technological discoveries that revolutionized the practice of manufacturing. The unions then emerged in the first capitalist country in world history: England. Class consciousness has been built by the labor movement since the early nineteenth century. It was no longer a confrontation between rich and poor, between workers and machines, but the whole of workers against capitalist exploitation.

The first trade union movements sought improvements in workers' lives, better working conditions, labor rights and especially fair compensation. The early unions were militant on the issue of pay and wanted wages similar to those of skilled workers.
