If you add 2 odd numbers together eg. 5+5 it would become an even number eg. 10.

If you add 2 even numbers together eg. 60+60 it would stay as an even number eg.120.

The product is basically the same thing as that but instead of adding the same number twice, you multiplying the number with 2 which is the same as adding two of the same numbers.

whole=4/4
4/4-3/4=1/4

equivilent, multiply top and bottom number by same number
1/4 times 2/2=2/8
