1. x-2(2x-3.5)=-14
    x-4x+7=-14
    -3x=-21

A rectangle's length is 6 units greater than its width. write an equation expressing the rectangle's area, a, as a function of w
vladimir1956 [14]
Let the width be w

Width = w
Length = w + 6
Area = a

a = w(w + 6)
a = w² + 6w

Answer: a = w² + 6w

If the graphs of the equations in a system of linear equations coincide with each other, what does that tell you about the solut
salantis [7]
 If by "coincide", in other words this is also known as intersect, it means that the solution to the system is that intersection point. For instance, if the intersection point of the 2 lines is (5,7) on the graph, it means that in both equations, x = 5 and y = 7. If you mean that the 2 equations result in the same line, it means that the 2 equations were really equal, but that one could be basic to be identical with the other. For example, if you have 2x + 2y = 8 and 4x + 4y = 16, they will give you the same line, and you can see that if you divide that second equation by 2 all the way crossways, it merely shows the first equation.

Show that the maximum rate of change, with respect to radius, of the volume of a deflating balloon is four times the sphere's in
dmitriy555 [2]

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's say R is the initial radius of the sphere, and r is the radius at time t.

The volume of the sphere at time t is:

V = 4/3 π r³

Taking derivative with respect to radius:

dV/dr = 4π r²

This is a maximum when r is a maximum, which is when r = R.

(dV/dr)max = 4π R²

This is 4 times the sphere's initial great circle area, but not the great circle circumference.  The problem statement contains an error.

An artist used silver wire to make a square that has a perimeter of 40 inches. She then used copper wire to make the largest cir
Serhud [2]

Answer:

The artist used 8.6\ in more of silver wire

Step-by-step explanation:

see the attached figure to better understand the problem

step 1

we know that

The Perimeter of the square is equal to

P=4a

where

a is the length side of the square

P=40\ in

so

40=4a

a=10\ in

so

Each side of the square has a length of 10 in

step 2

Find the circumference of the circle

The diameter of the circle is equal to the length of the side of  the square

The circumference is equal to

C=\pi D

we have

D=10\ in

substitute

C=(3.14)(10)=31.4\ in

step 3

Find the difference

40\ in-31.4\ in=8.6\ in
