We also see irony if we think about how Monsieur Lantin spoke to her about the jewels. Remember the line when he said, “You have

bohemian tastes, my dear.”?
What about this statement makes it an example of irony?

He is speaking to her as if he knows more than she does, when in fact, she is more knowledgeable about wealth than him.
He is treating her as if she is a simple little girl who can’t think for herself.
He respects her for not wanting to be upper class.
He thinks that she is a terrible person for liking false jewels, but in fact she is a wonderful person.

Read the sentence.
babunello [35]

Answer:

Assuming the word in bold is childhood, the correct answer is C. direct object.

Explanation:

It’s relatively easy to spot a direct object in a sentence - you can just ask the question Whom (for people), or What (for non-humans) to find it.

So here, the sentence is Carol spent her childhood at the beach.

If you ask the question, What did Carol spend at the beach?, you will get the answer - Her childhood. That way, you know it’s a direct object.

In a paragraph of at least 150 words, deduce who Kingsolver's primary audience is and discuss why. Include at least one quote fr
Liono4ka [1.6K]
I think the primary audience for this essay is the people who are trying to fit in. In her essay, Kingsolver had experience social isolation because of her clothes or fashion sense. She had tried to follow the fashion trends so that the present society will accept her.
I think people wanted to be accepted by the culture that is presented. Kingsolver knows how it was like to be isolated from social conformity. That is why she had hoped that her daughter would not experience what she has experience.
Kingsolver encourages people to be unique and be themselves. She believes that you don't have to be "in"  to be accepted. It is better to be you than to pretend to be someone else. She believes that everyone is unique and should also project themselves through their creativity.
