The function f(x) = 2(3)x represents the growth of a dragonfly population every year in a remote swamp. Rose wants to manipulate

the formula to an equivalent form that calculates seven times a year, not just once a year. Which function is correct for Rose's purpose, and what is the new growth rate? f(x) = 2(3)x; growth rate 200% f(x) = 2(1.17)7x; growth rate 17% f(x) = 2(3)x, growth rate 2% f(x) = 2(1.17)x; growth rate 2%

Answer : option B

The function f(x)= 2(3)^x represents the growth of a dragonfly population every year.

Rose wants to manipulate the formula to an equivalent form that calculates seven times a year, not just once a year. So function becomes

f(x)= 2(3^\frac{1}{7})^{7x}

In exponential function , f(x) = a(1+r)^x, where 'r' is the growth rate

f(x)= 2(1.17)^{7x}

1 + r = 1.17

r = 0.17

So growth rate = 0.17= 17%

f(x)= 2(1.17)^{7x} ; growth rate 17%

Students from two age groups were surveyed to see how they travel to school. Here are the results:
liq [111]

Answer:

The table representing the number of students by which mode of transport they travel is given as:

                              Walk or bike    Bus       Car     Row Total

Below age 15            87                    60        18           165

Age 15 and above   65                    50        80         195

Column Total            152                  110        98         360

We know that a relative frequency of an event is the ratio of frequency to the total number of trials.

i..e we divide each frequencies by 360 to obtain a two-way relative frequency.

Hence,the table is given as:

                              Walk or bike    Bus       Car     Row Total

Below age 15            0.24               0.17      0.05         0.46

Age 15 and above    0.18                0.14      0.22        0.54

Column Total             0.42               0.31     0.27          1
