#45 How many solutions exist for the equation (cos^2x/x)-(1/5)=0

Mathematics

45. A graphing calculator shows there to be 3 solutions. (There is no algebraic way to find them.)

_____

Rewriting the equation to

... f(x) = cos(x)² -x/5

We note sign changes in this function between 0 and π/2, between π/2 and π, and between π and 3π/2. Outside the range 0 to 3π/2, there are no more sign changes, hence no more solutions.

check the picture below.

notice, you're asked to use a graphing calculator to get them.

Please help simplify with steps
Leviafan [203]
Remember that you can always multiply or divide BOTH the numerator and denominator
of the fraction by anything you want to. You just have to do exactly the same to both of
them.

The way to simplify a fraction is to divide both the numerator and denominator by their
greatest common factor.

Do you see all of those 'x's on the top and bottom ? The top and bottom can
both be divided by x-cubed.

Numerator:
Divide (-4³) by x³, and you have (-4) left.

Denominator:
Divide (x³ - 2x⁴) by x³, and you have (1 - 2x) left.

So, the simplified fraction is [ -4 / (1 - 2x) ].

That's a perfectly good answer, but you could make it look a little prettier
if you multiply the top and bottom both by -1 . Then it would be

                             4 / (2x - 1) .

Either one is fine.

If I can walk 9673.6 meters in 5 hours. How far can I walk in 70 minutes. ( I need the work)
den301095 [7]

First, convert 5 hours into minutes:

5 hours 60 min

------------ * --------------- = 300 min

1 1 hr

Next, find the unit rate in m/min:

9673.6 m

--------------- = 32.24 m/min

300 min

Now find the distance you can walk in 70 minutes at this rate:

32.24 m

------------- * 70 min = 2247 meters (answer)

1 min

You could walk 2247 meters (to the nearest meter) in 70 minutes.

A Type I error is committed when a. you don't reject a null hypothesis that is true. b. you don't reject a null hypothesis that
e-lub [12.9K]

Answer:

c. you reject a null hypothesis that is true

Step-by-step explanation:

We need to remember the following concepts

Error type I: Is an error associated to the probability of reject a null hypothesis when it is actually true

Error type II: Is an error associated of not rejecting a null hypothesis when the alternative hypothesis is the true

And the best answer for this case would be:

c. you reject a null hypothesis that is true
