Answer: D. a message is distributed across plasma membrane.

Intercellular communication is the mode of transfer of information from one cell to other cell. Information is transferred in the form of substances which are released by the cell and  taken up by another cell.  A message travels between gap junction, an electrical signal causes muscle cells to contract together and a message is distributed across plasma membrane all are examples of intercellular communication. Here, message is distributed across the plasma membrane but it is not transmitted to another cell therefore, this is not an example of intercellular communication.
