Why were Americans able to develop a tradition of freedom while so many other people were in bondage?
lorasvet [3.4K]

Many of immigrants that came to America in the past did it to escape some sort of unfairness in their countries (such as religious persecutions, tyrannical government , etc)

Because of this, a lot of them actually value freedom and wanted to create a society where the past restrictions that they felt no longer exist.

That's  being said, the practice of slavery was very common back then. In United States, those practice were propagated by European countries that colonize different part of north American territories.

For quite a long time, people with different view in United States s lived together. Until eventually, both of them clashed during the civil war. The people who valued freedom emerged victorious.

Read and listen to the poem, "The Border: A Double Sonnet" by Albert Ríos. 2. Highlight TWO of the metaphors that you find in gr
KATRIN_1 [288]

Answer:

The two sentences below are examples of metaphors:

  • The border is a moat but without a castle on either side.
  • The border is a locked door that has been promoted.

Explanation:

The metaphor is a figure of speech that seeks to establish a comparison between two elements, subjectively, that is, this comparison is not made explicitly, but relates a common characteristic between the two elements.

In the case of the phrases presented above, we can see that the poet used the metaphor to compare borders with an unowned owner and an open door. He did this to reinforce the idea that borders are not designed to separate and limit us, but rather to unite us and make us a global, unified people.
