The Smiths are moving from New Jersey to South Africa. They pack their belongings in rectangular creates and hire a box to ship

the crates across land and sea. The crates are made specifically to fit inside the boxcar with their cases facing down. Each create has a base 5 m long by 1.5 m wide and height 2 m. The boxcar is 20 m long, 3 m wide and 4 m high. How many creates can the Smiths fit into one boxcar? Sorry it's so long I just copied and pasted. Please Help!!

Answer:

16 crates

Step-by-step explanation:

-This is a division problem.

-Let x be the number of crates that will fit in to the box car.

-To solve x, we divide the volume of the boxcar by the volume of one crate:

V=lwh\\\\l=length\\w=width\\h=height\\\\V_{bc}=20m\times 3m\times 4m\\\\=240\ m^3\\\\V_c=lwh\\\\=5m\times1.5m\times 2m\\\\=15\ m^3\\\\\therefore x=\frac{V_{bc}}{V_c}\\\\=\frac{240}{15}\\\\=16\ crates

Hence, 16 crates will fit in the boxcar.

Two customers went to a post office to buy postcards and large envelopes. Each postcard
astraxan [27]

The right answer is Option A.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let,

x be the postcards

y be the large envelops

According to given statement;

14x+5y=12   Eqn 1

10x+15y=24.80   Eqn 2

Multiplying Eqn 1 by 3;

3(14x+5y=12)\\42x+15y=36\ \ \ Eqn \ 3

Subtracting Eqn 2 from Eqn 3;

(42x+15y)-(10x+15y)=36-24.80\\42x+15y-10x-15y=11.20\\32x=11.20\\

Dividing both sides by 32

\frac{32x}{32}=\frac{11.20}{32}\\x=0.35

Putting x=0.35 in Eqn 1;

14(0.35)+5y=12\\4.90+5y=12\\5y=12-4.90\\5y=7.10

Dividing both sides by 5

\frac{5y}{5}=\frac{7.10}{5}\\y=1.42

Therefore, one large envelope costs $1.42

The right answer is Option A.

Riya is applying mulch to her garden. She applies it at a rate of 250{,}000\text{ cm}^3250,000 cm 3 250, comma, 000, start text,
koban [17]

Complete Question

Riya is applying to her garden. She applies it at a rate of 25, 000 cm³ of mulch for every m² of garden space. At what rate is Riya applying mulch in m³/m²

Answer:

0.25m³/m²

Step-by-step explanation:

We are told the Riya sprays mulch at 250,000cm³ per m²

To find the rate at which Riya is spaying the mulch in m³/m² we would have to convert 250,00cm³/m² to m³/m²

1 cm³ = 1 × 10^-6m³

250,000 cm³ = x m³

Cross Multiply

1 cm³ × xm³ = 250,000cm³ × 1 × 10^-6 m³

X

x m³ = 250,000cm³ × 1 × 10^-6 m³/1 cm³

= 0.25m³

Therefore, the rate at which Riya is spraying the mulch = 0.25m³/m²

Write two expressions that could be used to find 105% of x. ANSWER TODAY!! :) thanks
Margaret [11]

First way: x * 1.05

This computes directly what 105% of x will be.

Second way: x + (x * 0.05)

This takes x (which is 100%) and adds 5% of x to it.
