In The Crucible (1953) by Arthur Miller, Mrs. Putnam thinks a witch, Goody Osburn, is responsible for the death of her babies.

Ann Putnam, Thomas Putnam's wife, thinks a witch has killed her seven children. She accuses Goody Osburn after Tituba names her to get blame off of herself. Furthermore, she believes Goody Osburn is guilty because she was present at the time of her failed births. Mrs. Putnam is sad and angry about the death of her children and that is what drives her to put the blame on someone for it, even if that person is innocent.

Why does the summary need to be revised?
andreyandreev [35.5K]

The summary being spoken of is culled from this passage;

 • As a result of a volcanic eruption, Enkai and the cattle were thrown into the sky. Enkai wanted to save his cattle. He grew a tree that bridged the sky and the earth. The cattle walked down the tree to Neiterkob. Neiterkob and the Maasai tribe took over caring for the cattle.

This summary ought to be revised because;

 • C. The summary lacks transitions that connect ideas.

In the passage above, we see a summary that lacks cohesion and structure because of the lack of transitions at the beginning of sentences.

Transition words make sentences easy to read because they link up ideas. Examples of transition words are, however, since, but, though, etc.

The above summary lacks these transition words that connect ideas. Therefore it has to be revised for better comprehension.

Select the correctly formatted parenthetical cite. “Now many people use low-calorie sugar substitutes to control their weight” (
QveST [7]

Answer: D) “Now many people use low-calorie sugar substitutes to control their weight” (Kowalsky 19).

Explanation: when quoting a source in a paper or an essay, we need to cite that source in the correct way. According to MLA the format to write a parenthetical cite is to write the last name of the author of the source (book, article, etc.) followed by the number of the page from which we got the quote, this two elements must be in parentheses, and if it is the end of a sentence or a paragraph, the period must be after the last parentheses, also the cite isn't part of the quotation, so it must not be included in the quotation marks. The option that follows this format correctly is “Now many people use low-calorie sugar substitutes to control their weight” (Kowalsky 19).

Vladimir79 [104]
I would say that the use of Carpe diem in England during the Renaissance demonstrates the incorporation of Latin into English.
Renaissance was the time when ancient languages became very important, and as you may already know, even today's English is full of Latin words and expressions, such as carpe diem and others.
