Answer:

The unique things happen in meiosis are there is no DNA replication, the time taken for completion is longer. This is reductional division having two divisions i.e. meiosis-1 and meiosis-2. The meiosis-2 division is similar to the mitotic cell division.

Explanation:

The meiotic cell division is reductional while the mitosis is equational division. The meiotic cell division occurs in germ cells while the mitotic cell division has seen in body cells. The meiosis has certain peculiarities that are not found in mitotic cell division.

The meiotic cell division takes longer time than the mitosis. It can be taken years to complete. Mitotic cell division takes one or two and a half hours to complete.

There is no DNA replication in both the meiotic cell division as it reduces the number of chromosomes. In mitosis during the cell cycle DNA replication occurs.

In meiosis, the exchange of genetic materials occurs between the homologous chromosomes takes place in prophase-1 of the meiosis. The prophase-1 is the longest stage and have 5 substages.

Another peculiarity in meiosis is the daughter cells formed during telophase-1 of the first division, directly enters into the metaphase-2 of second meiotic division.

The second division of meiosis-2 is similar to the mitotic cell division. The only difference is mitosis produces 2n cells as output while the end of the second meiotic division results in 'n' number of cells.

The fact that all organisms share some basic features and life processes is used by biologists to explain the idea that all life
GuDViN [60]

Answer:

c. The cells of all organisms contain DNA that is housed in a membrane-bound nucleus.

Explanation:

DNA is the genetic material found in the cells of living organisms. Among the characteristics of the DNA that makes up the genetic code, it is said to be nearly universal though. DNA is said to be the "blueprint of life".

This means that the DNA sequence that encodes protein and useful information is the same in almost all living organisms. Hence, the statement that "cells of all organisms contain DNA that is housed in a membrane-bound nucleus is the" justification that fact that all organisms share some basic features and life processes is used by biologists to explain the idea that all life.

think about a petal plucked from its flower. is the petal alive according to the characteristics of life? why or why not?
Anna [14]

Answer;

No, the petal is not alive according to the characteristics of life

Explanation;

-This is because the flower petal on it's own can not Grow, or Reproduce, Adapt to it's Environment, Use Energy, or Respond to it's Environment.

-Growth, reproduction, response, and respiration are some of the characteristics of living organisms, therefore for anything to be considered living it must possess these characteristics.

Research the importance of chemotherapy. Write a 200 word report on the uses of chemotherapy.
ziro4ka [17]

Chemotherapy is a term which we usually related to the treatment of cancer. In cancer the malignant cell keeps on dividing themselves and   also infect the near by cell to enter into a phase of no restrictive division. In chemotherapy, a drug or medicine either individually or in combination with other medicines is either directly introduced in the blood or is injected only on the targeted cell. The chemotherapy interacts with the cell division process of the cell directly or indirectly. In the direct process the cell division process either mitosis or meiosis is impaired or the essential hormones or enzymes required for cell divisions are attacked through cytotoxic drug. It also inhibits cell division through apoptosis strategy where the cancerous cell starts dividing themselves. The chemotherapy process is to be done regularly over a certain period of time. Usually the treatment course occurs from a day to few weeks’ time. The dosage of chemical is given either orally or injected into the body fluid or either through intravenously.

Apart from benefits there can be several side effects of chemotherapy:

a) A patient may get pucky feelings and in some cases may have nausea or vomiting

b) There are also chances of hair loss.

c) It can also adversely affect the skin, as it may get dry or oversensitive.

d) The blood platelet count may decrease

e) There can be chances of  hearing and vision impairment.
