Answer:

The unique things happen in meiosis are there is no DNA replication, the time taken for completion is longer. This is reductional division having two divisions i.e. meiosis-1 and meiosis-2. The meiosis-2 division is similar to the mitotic cell division.

Explanation:

The meiotic cell division is reductional while the mitosis is equational division. The meiotic cell division occurs in germ cells while the mitotic cell division has seen in body cells. The meiosis has certain peculiarities that are not found in mitotic cell division.

The meiotic cell division takes longer time than the mitosis. It can be taken years to complete. Mitotic cell division takes one or two and a half hours to complete.

There is no DNA replication in both the meiotic cell division as it reduces the number of chromosomes. In mitosis during the cell cycle DNA replication occurs.

In meiosis, the exchange of genetic materials occurs between the homologous chromosomes takes place in prophase-1 of the meiosis. The prophase-1 is the longest stage and have 5 substages.

Another peculiarity in meiosis is the daughter cells formed during telophase-1 of the first division, directly enters into the metaphase-2 of second meiotic division.

The second division of meiosis-2 is similar to the mitotic cell division. The only difference is mitosis produces 2n cells as output while the end of the second meiotic division results in 'n' number of cells.
