The heart increases in size. While you're a child, your heart is a lot smaller than it'll be as an adult size. Your heart increases because as you grow, your body and brain increase. If you were an adult carrying the heart of a 5 year old, your heart wouldn't be able to supply the amount of blood your body needs to every part of it, most importantly, the brain.

Andreas93 [3]
Sickle cell anemia is cause when normal, healthy red blood cells morph into an oblong crescent moon shape. Because of the abnormal shape, the red blood cell die quicker resulting in a reduced red blood cell count. White blood cells are elevated because they are constantly trying to get rid of the unhealthy red blood cells. Hemoglobin is an oxygen-carrying protein that is mostly found in red blood cells, and with reduced RBC's, hemoglobin is also reduced.
