C.

A doesn't work because x + x + x = 3x, not x^3.

B doesn't work because 14x + 10 - 2x has like terms, 14x and -2x can be combined, bit when you do so you get 14x - 2x, or 12x + 10. (So not 16x + 10)

D doesn't work because 12x^2 + 5x + 10 doesn't simplify; it can only be factored, and you cannot combine 12x^2 and 5x because their variables have different powers.

C, however, works fine. All they did is factor out a 3; if you distribute that 3 again, you get 12x + 16x back, so the two are equal.

Explanation: Find a common denominator (bottom number) for both fractions. 4. Multiply the 1 and 2 in 1/2 to get 2/4. Then just add the numerators (top number). This gives you 3/4.
I noticed you also said show me how to multiply. For fractions, you just mutiply the numeration and denominator apart.

Area of the rectangle:
4.2 x 3.1 = 13.02 cm^2

Area of each quarter circle:
\frac{ \pi  (3.1)^{2} }{4} = 7.54 cm^2

We have two quarter circles:
7.54 + 7.54 = 15.08

41.65 + 13.02 + 15.08 = 69.75 cm^2
