Malcom X was an African American activist and leader, an important member of the Nation of Islam. He, like Martin Luther King Jr, fougth fot the rights of the African American but believed that rights must be defended "by any means if necessary", even if that meant violence. This contrasted with the non-violent premises of the mainstream civil-rights movement. Malcolm X's ideas of race pride and self-defense were the bases of the Black Power Movement of the 60's.
