Melanie has 137 dollars in total.

Let each book cost=x

No of books=17

So total cost of 17 books=17x

After buying books Melanie left with 11 dollars

According to question the required equation will be=

17x+11=137

17x=137-11=126

x=8

i.e Price of each book is 8 dollars. (Answer)
