There were many of them. Spain was divided from the English colonies with the desert in the south west region. There were also mountains in the west as well as in the east and north. lakes and forests also separated northern colonies from others. The Caribbean separated the middle part in case anyone wanted to go from one continent to the other by sea. <span />
