The word deteriorate means diminishing and deteriorating. If a relationship between two people diminishes, and those two people have children together, that could mean bad blood between not only them but also the children that each party decides to take along with them.

Negative thoughts are inculcated between them and therefore even the thanksgiving, people are killing each other instead of having a good dinner together.
