What does the word kristallnacht mean?

Answer:  "Crystal Night" -- often translated as "Night of Broken Glass." (The "crystal" refers to the broken glass of windows in destroyed businesses and homes and synagogues.)

Context/details:

In November, 1938, there was rampant destruction of Jewish-owned businesses and synagogues and violence against Jewish people.  This occurred on the night of November 9 going on into November 10, 1938, and was called "<em>Kristallnacht,</em>" or "The Night of Broken Glass."   It was public violence by masses of people, not a specific campaign ordered by the Nazi regime. However, Nazi officials did tell police and firefighters to do nothing -- to let the violence and destruction occur.  The next day, Joseph Goebbels, the Nazi minister of propaganda, said that this sort of eruption against the Jews was natural and understandable.  He said:  "It is an intolerable state of affairs that within our borders and for all these years hundreds of thousands of Jews still control whole streets of shops, populate our recreation spots and, as foreign apartment owners, pocket the money of German tenants, while their racial comrades abroad agitate for war against Germany."

In the days after <em>Kristallnacht, </em>the Nazi government said that the Jewish community itself was responsible for all the damage and destruction, and imposed enormous fines against the Jewish community.  They also arrested more than 30,000 Jewish men and sent them to concentration camps which were built to incarcerate Jews and any others that the Nazis perceived to be enemies of the German state.

In the 1900s, before the Great Depression, how did Japan acquire raw materials for industrialization?
Tpy6a [65]
Unlike England, who had an abundance of coal and other natural resources necessary for industrialization, Japan had very few of these raw materials. Instead, the Japanese traded for raw materials to fuel their factories and make their products.

What does this quote from the text mean, "Westward fled the refugees from this new Sahara, as if obedient to the old American tr
Andrej [43]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Although the question does not provide any options, we can say that the meaning of the quote "Westward fled the refugees from this new Sahara, as if obedient to the old American tradition that westward lies the land of promise," means the following.

During the Dust Bowl years, farmers from the plains lived the worst conditions to farm the land. The dry weather and the lack of rain created dust storms that choked and killed the animals and the land was impossible to farm. This situation made things worse during the Great Depression years in the United States, That is why people decided to move to the Pacific West in order to find new life opportunities or starting from scratch. That is why, for some people, the west coast seemed like the promised land.

That quote is part of the text included in the book <em>"Since Yesterday: The 1930s in America," </em>written by Frederick Lewis Allen.

Which option is an example of deductive reasoning?
Julli [10]

Answer:

C.

Explanation:

Deductive reasoning refers to using one or more statements in order to reach a logical conclusion. While also having the conclusion go in the same direction as the conditionals while linking the premises with the conclusion. That being said the option that is an example of this would be "Cities are populated. Chicago is a city. Therefore, Chicago is  populated". That is because it provides two different logical premises in order to come to a logical conclusion based on the initial premises.
