line p passes through points (2,13) and (9,8). line q is perpendicular to p what is the slope of line q?

Korvikt [17]3 years ago
4 0

to find the slope of P, use the formula (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

(8-13)/(9-2) gives you -5/7

a perpendicular line has the opposite reciprocal slope so it is positive 7/5 or 1 2/5

TV=3x-24 and VX=2x+1. What is the value of VX?<br> 1. 25<br> 2. 99<br> 3. 5<br> 4. 51
Maslowich
ΔTXV is an <span>isosceles triangle because ∡T = ∡X therefore TV = VX.

3x - 24 = 2x + 1    |subtract 2x from both sides

x - 24 = 1    |add 24 to both sides

x = 25

What multiplies to 16 and adds to negative 12
Romashka-Z-Leto [24]
Factor 16 and see the - factor pairs and add them, see which add to -12
-1-16=-17 nope
-2-8=-10 nope
-4-4=-8
hmm

we will solve with math
xy=16
x+y=-12
minus  x both sides
y=-12-x
sub for y in other equation
x(-12-x)=16
-12x-x^2=16
add 12x+x^2 both sides
0=x^2+12x+16
use quadratic formula
if you have
ax^2+bx+c=0
x=\frac{-b+/- \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac} }{2a}

0=x^2+12x+16
a=1
b=12
c=16

x=\frac{-12+/- \sqrt{12^{2}-4(1)(16) }}{2(1)}
x=\frac{-12+/- \sqrt{144-64 }}{2}
x=\frac{-12+/- \sqrt{80}}{2}
x=\frac{-12+/- 4\sqrt{5}}{2}
x=\frac{-6+/- 2\sqrt{5}
x=\frac{-6+ 2\sqrt{5} or \frac{-6- 2\sqrt{5}

aprox
x=-1.52786 or -10.4721

those are the numbers

the numbes are -1.52786 or -10.4721
