What you want to know here is whether 3/5 is smaller than 1/2,

for this, you need to bring them to the same denominator. We do this by multiplying the whole fraction by the other number's denominator:

$\frac{3}{5}= \frac{3*2}{5*2}= \frac{6}{10}$

 \frac{1}{2}= \frac{1*5}{2*5}= \frac{5}{10}  

which means that the first number is bigger!

so 3/5 is bigger than 1/2, which means that it is not a closer, but a further distance!
