Some colonist were fearful because it was considered treason to fight for independence from Great Britain but more importantly they feared that the imminent war would be lost on their side because Great Britain was too powerful. T<em>hey believed the war would be better fought at a later time when the colonies had grown in strength for the battle ahead. </em>
