Answer:

1 drink costs \$3.25 and 1 popcorn bag cost \$8

Step-by-step explanation:

Given:

Sarah spends a total of $47.00 on 12 drinks and 1 bag of popcorn.

Kaylee spends a total of $81.75 on 3 drinks and 9 bags of popcorn

Let the price of 1 drink be x

Let the price of 1 popcorn bag be y

Sarah Spends is given by:

12x+y =47

Kayle spends is given by:

3x+9y=81.75\\3x= 81.75-9y\\x= \frac{81.75-9y}{3}

Now putting the value of x in sarah spending equation we get

12(\frac{81.75-9y}{3})+y=47\\4(81.75-9y)+y =47\\327-36y+y=47\\327-47=35y\\y=\frac{280}{35}=8

Now Substituting value of y=8 in Sarah spends equation we get

12x+y=47\\12x+8=47\\12x=39\\x=\frac{39}{12}=3.25

Hence 1 drink costs \$3.25 and 1 popcorn bag cost \$8

work out the equation of the line which passes through the point (-1, 2) and is parallel to the line y=x+4
Sauron [17]

The equation of the line which passes through the point (-1, 2) and is parallel to the line y = x + 4 is y = x + 3

<h3><u>Solution:</u></h3>

Gtiven that line passes through the point (-1, 2) and parallel to line y = x + 4

We have to find the equation of line

<em><u>The equation of line in slope intercept form is given as:</u></em>

y = mx + c  ---------- eqn 1

where "m" is the slope of line and "c" is the y - intercept

<em><u>Let us first find the slope of line</u></em>

Given equation of line is y = x + 4

On comparing the given equation of line y = x + 4 with general slope intercept form y = mx + c,

we get slope of line "m" = 1

We know that slopes of parallel lines are equal

So the slope of line parallel to line having equation y = x + 4 is also 1

Now we have to find the equation of line having slope "m" = 1 and passes through point (-1, 2)

Substitute m = 1 and (x, y) = (-1, 2) in eqn 1

2 = 1(-1) + c

2 = -1 + c

c = 3

<em><u>Thus the required equation of line is:</u></em>

Substitute c = 3 and m = 1 in eqn 1

y = 1x + 3

y = x + 3

Thus the required equation of line is found out
