Start without thinking of the options. You could do process of elimination, and that's fine, but to learn this kind of problem it's better to think it all the way through. The problem says you have 112 books, and an indefinite number shelves, s, that each hold sixteen books. You need to fit 112 books into shelves, each with sixteen books.  That comes down to 112÷s=16, which is the same as 16s=112.

Please help me with this very troubling algebra question, Thank you.
VladimirAG [237]
The answer would have to be 52/87. Since it says "given", as in a geometric sense (proof), you know that the overall would have to be 87. It also adds that the students would be in the 10th grade, thus bringing us to the conclusion that 52/87 is correct. Then, simply use a calculator and put in 52/87. You're final answer, rounded to the nearest hundredth, should be 0.60.

The equation for line j can be written as
yawa3891 [41]

Answer:

y + 8 = x + 10

Step-by-step explanation:

the equation of a line in point- slope form is

y - b = m(x - a)

where m is the slope and (a, b) a point on the line

y - 6 = -(x + 7) is in this form with slope m = - 1

given the slope of a line m then the slope of a line perpendicular to it is

m_{perpendicular} = - \frac{1}{m} = - \frac{1}{-1} = 1

using m = 1 and (a, b) = (- 10, - 8), then

y + 8 = x + 10 ← equation of line k

or y = x + 2 ← in slope- intercept form
