Hey! Ok so with this problem, you can figure out the pattern with subtraction.

If you convert the fractions to decimals you get 3.25 and 5.625.
5.625 - 3.25 = 2.375, which means he increased his run by 2.375 miles.
8 - 5.625 = 2.375 as well, which follows the pattern. So what you would need to do from here is add 2.375 miles for each day he jogged.

8 + 2.375 = 10. 375, the miles he jogged on thursday.
10.375 + 2.375 = 12. 75, the miles he jogged on friday.

So, when converted to fractions, your answer is D: Eric jogged 12 3/4 miles on Firday

ACT mathematics score for a particular year are normally distributed with a mean of 27 and a standard deviation of 2 points.
mel-nik [20]

Answer:

A: 16%

B: 95%

C: 97.5%

Step-by-step explanation:

According to the empirical rule:

68% of a normal distribution is between -1 and +1 standard deviations.

95% of a normal distribution is between -2 and +2 standard deviations.

99.7% of a normal distribution is between -3 and +3 standard deviations.

Given μ = 27 and σ = 2.

Part A

29 is one standard deviation above the mean. We can show this by calculating the z-score:

z = (x − μ) / σ

z = (29 − 27) / 2

z = 1

We know that 68% is between -1 and +1 standard deviations. Since normal distributions are symmetrical, we can also say that 34% is between 0 and +1 standard deviations.

P(0 < Z < 1) = 68%/2 = 34%

We can also say that 50% is less than 0 standard deviations.

P(Z < 0) = 50%

Therefore, P(Z < 1) = 34% + 50% = 84%.

Which means P(Z > 1) = 100% − 84% = 16%.

Part B

Like before, calculate the z-scores:

z₁ = (23 − 27) / 2

z₁ = -2

z₂ = (31 − 27) / 2

z₂ = 2

From the empirical rule, we know this is 95% of the normal distribution.

Part C

We found in part B that the z-score is 2.

P(0 < Z < 2) = 95%/2 = 47.5%

P(Z < 2) = 50% + 47.5% = 97.5%

Consider a sequence given by the formula f(n)=3n-1 starting with n=1. Generate the first 5 terms of the sequence
Rufina [12.5K]

Answer:

The first 5 terms are 2, 5, 8, 11, 14.

Step-by-step explanation:

 1. You use the formula to find out each term.
 2. f(n)=3n-1 starting with n=1. If n=1 that is the 1st term, if n=2 that is the 2nd term, and so on. n means what number term it is.
 3. Now to find each term:
 • n=1: f(1)= 3(1)-1= 3-1= 2 The 1st term is 2
 • n=2: f(2)= 3(2)-1= 6-1= 5 The 2nd term is 5
 • n=3: f(3)= 3(3)-1= 9-1=8 The 3rd term is 8
 • n=4: f(4)= 4(3)-1= 12-1= 11 The 4th term is 11
 • n=5: f(5)= 5(3)-1= 15-1= 14 The 5th term is 14

So the first 5 terms are 2,5,8,11,14

Use quadratic formula

y^2-14y= -44

what is the solution set?
andrezito [222]
Given, y^2 - 14y = -44

Add 44 to both sides of the equation

y^2 - 14y + 44 = -44 + 44

y^2 - 14y + 44 = 0

Using the quadratic formula x = [-b ± √(b² - 4ac)]/2a

Where,

a = 1

b = -14

c = 44

x = [-b ± √(b² - 4ac)]/2a

x = [-(-14) ± √(-14² - 4(1)(44)]/2(1)

x = [14 ± √(196 - 176)]/2

x = [14 ± √20]/2

x = (14 + √20)/2 OR (14 - √20)/2

x = (14 + 4.472)/2 OR (14 - 4.472)/2

x = 18.472/2 OR 9.528/2

x = 9.236 OR 4.764

The solution set is {9.236, 4.764}

TO EXPRESS THE ANSWER IN RADICALS

x = [14 ± √20]/2

x = (14 + √20)/2 OR (14 - √20)/2

x = (14 + 2√5)/2 OR (14 - 2√5)/2

x = 7+√5 OR 7-√5

The solution set is {7+√5, 7-√5}
