if you add two numbers with different sign , but absolute value of positive number is greater than absolute of negative number , sum will be positive ex. -4+7=3 I7I GREATER THAN I-4I, WE SUBTRACT 4 FROM 7 =3 POSITIVE OR -14 +20 =6 POSITIVE , ABSOLUTE VALUE OF 20 GREATER THAN ABSOLUTE VALUE OF -14

Answer:

If we want to add two integers of different signs and want to get a result will be a positive integer then,

The positive integer must have larger absolute value and negative integer must have smaller absolute value than the absolute value of a positive integer.

For example: -1 + 3 = 2 Here 3 has larger absolute value and -1 has smaller absolute value. So the result is a positive integer.

But if we take -7 + 2 = -5 , Here -7 has larger absolute value and 2 has smaller absolute value. So the result is a negative integer.

Solve the system of equations using the elimination method.

4x+3y=16
x=-3y+13
Ipatiy [6.2K]
Step by Step Solution
More Icon
System of Linear Equations entered :

[1] -4x - 3y = -7
[2] 16x - 3y = 13
Graphic Representation of the Equations :

-3y - 4x = -7 -3y + 16x = 13

Solve by Substitution :

// Solve equation [2] for the variable x

[2] 16x = 3y + 13

[2] x = 3y/16 + 13/16
// Plug this in for variable x in equation [1]

[1] -4•(3y/16+13/16) - 3y = -7
[1] - 15y/4 = -15/4
[1] - 15y = -15
// Solve equation [1] for the variable y

[1] 15y = 15

[1] y = 1
// By now we know this much :

x = 3y/16+13/16
y = 1
// Use the y value to solve for x

x = (3/16)(1)+13/16 = 1
Solution :
{x,y} = {1,1}
