8(-6k - 3) = 8(3 - 4k)

Simplify everything :)

-48k - 24 = 24 - 32k

We'r essentially trying to get k onto it's own.

So, we must ADD 24 to both sides, as well as ADDING 32k to both sides.

-48k + 32k = 24 + 24

Simplify.

-16k = 48

Divide both sides by -16.

k = 48/-16

Simplify.

k = -3

Hi there!
This problem requires us to solve for k, when solving problems like this it is important to note that what you do to one side of the equation (add,subtract,multiply and/or divide), you MUST do to the other side of the equation. Let's start!

First, we must distribute 8, in this case we need to distribute on BOTH sides of the equation. Remember when we distribute we use the distribution property:
a(c+b)=ac+ab
You must distribute to every number and/or variable present within the parentheses:
(8)(-6k)+(8)(-3)=(8)(3)+(8)(-4k)

Once we multiply the numbers together we have:
-48k-24=24-32k

From here we combine like terms. Like terms are terms that contain the same variable and/or exponential value. For example:
3c and 4c are like terms because they have the same variables
24 and 50 are like terms because they are simply numbers without any variables.

In our problem, we see that we have -48k and -32k these are like terms. Our goal is to cancel out numbers so that we can solve for k.

Lets start by adding 48 to both sides so that we can have all the k's on one side of the equation:

-48k+48k-24=24-32k+48k

Now we have:
-24=24+16k

Now let's get the numbers without the variables on one side, we can do this by subtracting the 24 from the right side of the equation. Remember when we do one thing to one side of the equation we must apply it to both. So we subtract 24 on both sides.
-24-24=24-24+16k

Now we have:
-48=16k

Lastly, we must divide both sides of the equation by -16 to solve for k. We divide by -16 because the opposite of multiplication is division, -16 is currently multiplied by k:
\frac{-48}{-16} = \frac{-16k}{-16}

When we divide we get k=3

Our final answer would be: k=3

Alexis has $3.25 in nickels and dimes. The number of dimes is 5 less than twice the number of nickels. Find the number of nickel
jek_recluse [69]

Answer:

15 nickels were there with Alexis

Step-by-step explanation:

Let there be x nickels

given that

The number of dimes is 5 less than twice the number of nickels.

no of dimes in terms of x = 2*number of nickels - 5 = 2x - 5

we know that

value of 1 nickel = 5 cents

then

value of x nickel = 5*x cents = 5x cents

we know that

value of 1 dime = 10 cents

then

value of 2x-5 dime = 10(2x - 5) cents = 20x - 50 cents

Total value of x nickel and 2x -5 dimes = 5x + 20x - 50 = 25x - 50

given that

Alexia has total of $3.25 in nickel and dimes thus 25x - 50 must be equal to $3.25

$1 = 100 cents

$3.25 = 3.25 * 100 cents = 325 cents

Thus,

25x - 50 = 325

25x = 325 + 50 = 375

x = 375/25 = 15

Thus, no of nickels = x = 15 answer

How many eggs are needed to make 1 dozen waffles, assuming you have enough of all other ingredients? given: 2 cups flour + 3 egg
malfutka [58]

We have been given that

2 cups flour + 3 eggs + 1 tbs oil → 4 waffles

In order to make 4 waffles we need 3 eggs.

Thus, to make 1 waffle we need 3/4 eggs.

Now, in 1 dozen there are 12 waffles. Hence, to make 12 waffles we need

\frac{3}{4} \times 12\\
\\
=3 \times 3\\
=9

Therefore, 9 eggs are needed to make 1 dozen waffles.

D is the correct option.

ASAP NO LINKS EXPLANATION PLEASE a boat traveled 400 miles in 8 hours find its rate of speed in miles per hours
Vladimir79 [104]

Answer:

50 miles per hours

Step-by-step explanation:

400 miles per 8 hours is the same as

200 miles for 4 hours which is the same as

100 miles for 2 hours which is still the same as

50 miles per hour

I just divided each one by two until I reached the unit rate
