Abraham Lincoln hated slavery. In fact, it was his influence that led to the end of slavery through the civil war. Though he was murdered for his strong belief of an equal world.

They want total control over people and they want to break people physically and spiritually. Through torture they would eventually get the person to break and this would be good because they wouldn't be against the state anymore.

When Lincoln was reelected the country was engulfed in the Civil War and Lincoln was reelected based on the idea that he would help end the war which indeed did happen soon after his reelection. At the same time however, he was assassinated just 2 months into his second term so Andrew Johnson became the president.
