Why does Hispanic Heritage Month start on September 15th? Why do we have this celebration in the United States?

It starts on the 15th because that is the anniversary of independence of El Salvador, Honduras,Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Guatemala. It has since been expanded to include all of latin america and it's contributions to the U.S
